Biography
Dr Theodore Orlando Duxbury is an esteemed quality assurance pharmacist in managed healthcare, an awarded leader and researcher, and a blogger. Recognized for his exceptional leadership capabilities, Mr Duxbury's collaborative and communicative nature enables him to forge effective partnerships and facilitate critical thinking and management. With an impressive academic background, he holds a Master's degree in Pharmacy Practice, a Higher Certificate in Healthcare Services Management (Cum Laude), a National Department of Health Immunisation and Injection Technique Section 22A15 license, with a PhD in Pharmacy Practice from Rhodes University.
Throughout his academic journey, Dr Duxbury has pursued excellence by acquiring various research, industry, and quality assurance certifications, thereby enhancing his expertise in the field. He has made significant contributions as the primary author and collaborator in four international peer-reviewed academic journals and has also authored a book chapter, establishing himself as a prolific writer and researcher. Furthermore, he has had the privilege of presenting his research findings at 12 local and international academic conferences and webinars, and is the sole author of the blog “Duxie Scholar”, solidifying his impact and influence. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr Duxbury embodies the principles of Ubuntu and essential human virtues, as evidenced by his commitment to his community. Hailing from the Eastern Cape, he remains deeply connected and actively contributes to its well-being. His efforts in promoting health and epistemic justice encompass health promotion projects, National Science Festival exhibitions, student volunteering, and National Science Week workshops. Additionally, his dedication to nurturing the next generation is reflected in his involvement in student mentorships and his blog, offering guidance and support to aspiring professionals.
Formerly a part-time contracted lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at Rhodes University Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr Duxbury has inspired numerous students with his wealth of knowledge and unwavering passion for the subject. His research centres around health and social justice. His academic ability, in conjunction with his innovative work, conducted in collaboration with the Community Engagement Epistemic Justice and Engaged Research Division at Rhodes University, has earned recognition and support from the esteemed 2018-2020 National Research Foundation, Southern African Systems Analysis Centre Doctoral Scholarship and the National Department of Health Social Compact Scholarship. In acknowledgement of his exceptional leadership and contributions, Dr Duxbury has been honoured with the Rhodes Investec-Rhodes Top 100 Student Leadership Award in 2019 and the prestigious Rhodes University Community Engagement Student Researcher of the Year Award in 2020. Furthermore, his outstanding academic achievements have earned him induction into the esteemed Golden Key International Honorary Society in 2019. Dr Duxbury was the Faculty of Pharmacy postgraduate representative (2016-mid 2017), chairperson of the R.U. Anglican Society (2016 and 2017) and engages in a variety of spiritual activities on and off campus. Mr Duxbury was also elected as the Cathedral of St Michael and St George Parish Councillor (2016 - 2020) and chairperson for the Cathedral Students Ministry (2019 - 2020). Dr Duxbury was licensed as a Lay Minister within the Cathedral of St Michael and St George Anglican Church on 09 September 2018 and later, as Alternate Churchwarden in 2020. Dr Theodore Duxbury's unwavering dedication, remarkable accomplishments, and commitment to excellence continue to shape the future of pharmacy practice, healthcare development, quality assurance and managed healthcare services. Through his exemplary leadership and inspirational impact, he acts as a catalyst for positive change within his community and beyond.
